Vasti Knoesen was born in 1989. In 2012 she graduated with her Bmus Opera degree at the University of Cape Town also receiving the class medal. In 2009 she performed as the Alto soloist in Arvo Part’s St. Matthew’s Passion and in 2010 she performed as the soloist in Rachmaninoff’s Vespers.
At the moment Vasti is busy completing her Postgradute Diploma at the University of Cape Town studying under Hanna van Niekerk and Kamal Kahn. She has received masterclasses from renouned artists including Daniel Washington, Michelle Breedt and Kobie van Rensburg. She has performed the roles of Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro(2010), Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte (2012) and Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni(2013).
Vasti sang the role of Langkappie in Nicola Hanekom’s creation Land van Skedels, which has won four Fiesta awards. Most recently she performed as the mezzo soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Bminor Mass and his Coronation Mass, and in Arvo Part’s Stabat Mater. She also perfomed Schumann’s Fraueliebe-und Leben at the Schock Chamber Music Final at the end of 2013.
This year she sang the roles of Mother Mary in Poulanc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, Lady with a Hat Box in Argento’s Postcard from Morocco and Modestina in Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims. She also travelled to Scotland during July, performing in Glasgow Opera’s new opera production Anamchara. She also sang the ensemble role, Klant 1, in Braam du Toit’s opera Poskantoor, which won the award for best production at the Clover Aardklop Festival this year.
